Vegan Orange and White Chocolate Donuts

As you can probably tell from all my donut related posts recently, I've been really enjoying using my new donut pans! These donuts are wonderfully tasty, with the zesty orange and the smooth white chocolate complementing each other beautifully.

I love how just adding a little orange zest and juice, something so simple, can give such a wonderful and rich flavour. The topping for these donuts was a white chocolate icing - achieved by mixing melted white chocolate, icing sugar and non-dairy milk (I used unsweetened soya milk). This produces a really lovely icing, which is my opinion is better to use than just topping with melted chocolate.

I've already raved about these silicone donut pans on my post for Cinnamon Donuts with a Chocolate Glaze, but honestly I can't praise them enough! The donuts turn out perfectly and don't get stuck at all - the pans also clean really easily and stack into one another, bonus!

My inspiration for this recipe was very simple, we had a lot of oranges in! Honestly sometimes I think there's nothing better than just looking at what ingredients you have rather than going to the shops. You never know what you'll find around your kitchen than can spark ideas for recipe you may not have thought of otherwise!

I hope you enjoy this recipe for orange and white chocolate donuts - if you do happen to try them out, please do tag me in your photos using #susiechef on Twitter and Instagram!

Vegan Orange and White Chocolate Donuts

Total time: 45 Minutes Plus Cooling Time

Yield: 10 Donuts
Ingredients
  • 90g Dairy-free Butter
  • 100g Caster Sugar
  • 170g Plain Flour
  • 1 Tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 120ml Dairy-Free Milk
  • Zest of One Orange (Plus extra for decoration)
  • 100g Vegan White Chocolate
  • 5 Tbsp Icing Sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp Dairy-free Milk
Cooking Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 180ยบ celsius. Grease your donut pan (I used these silicone ones so no greasing was necessary!).
  2. Beat together the butter and sugar.
  3. Fold in the flour and bicarbonate of soda.
  4. Mix in the dairy-free milk, zest of the orange and the orange juice, stir until fully combined.
  5. Transfer your mixture to a piping bag - top tip, put your piping bag into a pint glass, then fill it up, this makes it easier to pour the mixture in!
  6. Pipe the mixture into the donut pans, filling each donut hole about half full.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, until the donuts have risen and are firm.
  8. Leave to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack, turning the donuts over so the bottom side doesn't get soggy as they cool.
  9. When the donuts are fully cooled begin making the icing. Melt the white chocolate, then stir in the icing sugar and dairy-free milk, stirring quickly to make a smooth mixture.
  10. Spoon the icing onto the donuts carefully, topping with orange zest for decoration.
